Agent API and MCP server
AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT can use HomeShared to check whether an Airbnb home can be booked for less, search vacation rentals, get an all-in price and hand the traveler a checkout link. Connect through our MCP server or call the same tools as a JSON API. It's free, needs no account or API key, and never books or charges anything on its own.
The four tools
find_cheaper(POST /api/v1/find-cheaper)Takes an Airbnb listing link and trip dates and finds the same home bookable elsewhere: on HomeShared, where guests pay no service fee, or on its host's own booking site. Each match comes with its all-in total, how sure the match is, a link, and the savings against Airbnb when Airbnb's total for the same nights is known.
search_stays(GET /api/v1/search-stays)Homes that are free for the dates in a place, cheapest all-in first. For when the traveler doesn't have a listing in mind yet.
get_quote(POST /api/v1/quote)A fresh, itemized price for one offer (nightly rate, fees, taxes) and a quote_id that's good for 15 minutes.
book(POST /api/v1/book)Checks the quote again and returns a checkout link. The traveler signs in, reviews the price, house rules and cancellation policy, and pays there. This tool reserves and charges nothing.
Prices are checked live on every call, include fees and taxes, and say when they were checked. Amounts are in US dollars and dates are YYYY-MM-DD.
How a match is found. Many homes on HomeShared were imported from Airbnb by their hosts, so an Airbnb link to one of them is an exact match. Otherwise HomeShared reads that one public Airbnb listing page and compares its photos, location and details (bedrooms, beds, baths, guests) with homes nearby, and says how confident the match is: exact, high or possible. If the home isn't on HomeShared yet, the answer says so and gives a link where the traveler can ask its host to join.
Connect it
The MCP server is at https://homeshared.app/mcp. It speaks Streamable HTTP, needs no sign-in, and is stateless (send JSON-RPC with POST).
Claude (claude.ai and Claude Desktop). Go to Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, and enter https://homeshared.app/mcp. Then ask, for example, "Is this Airbnb cheaper anywhere else?" with a listing link and your dates.
Claude Code.
claude mcp add --transport http homeshared https://homeshared.app/mcpChatGPT. Open Plugins, select +, then Add custom MCP server. Name it HomeShared, enter https://homeshared.app/mcp as the server URL, choose no authentication, and create it. Custom MCP servers depend on your ChatGPT plan and workspace settings; some plans need developer mode turned on first.
Other MCP clients. Add a remote (Streamable HTTP) server with the URL above. To try it from a terminal:
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector --cli https://homeshared.app/mcp --transport http --method tools/listREST API
The same four tools as plain HTTP at https://homeshared.app/api/v1: JSON in and out, open CORS, no auth. Each endpoint returns exactly what its MCP tool does.
POST /find-cheaperwithairbnb_url,check_in,check_out,adults, and optionallychildren,infants,petsandairbnb_total(the total Airbnb shows at checkout; savings are measured against it). Withoutairbnb_total, savings are reported only for homes whose prices are copied from their Airbnb calendar, against Airbnb's prices for the same nights.GET /search-stays?location=…&check_in=…&check_out=…&adults=…, and optionallychildren,infants,pets,min_bedrooms,max_totalandlimit(up to 20).POST /quotewith anoffer_idfrom either of those, and the dates and guests.POST /bookwith thequote_id. Returnscheckout_urland whether the price changed since the quote.

Errors and limits
Errors come back as {"error": {"code", "message", "details"}}: invalid_request, unsupported_url and card_data_not_accepted (400), not_found (404), unavailable (409), quote_expired (410) and rate_limited (429).
Each IP address can make 60 requests a minute and 1,000 a day, across the MCP server and the REST API, and any one Airbnb listing can be looked up 30 times every 10 minutes. Requests from Claude's connectors share Anthropic's addresses and get higher limits. Over a limit you get HTTP 429 with a Retry-After header in seconds.
Privacy and safety
There's no account, API key or sign-in, and the tools never ask for a traveler's name, email or payment details. A request that contains a card number is refused. Nothing is booked or charged until the traveler confirms and pays on HomeShared's own checkout page.
For each Airbnb link looked up we keep a record of which listing it was, when, and roughly where the request came from, but not the IP address, dates or party size. See AI assistants and our agent API in our Privacy Policy.
The tool descriptions say what each tool does and nothing more: they don't tell the model to prefer HomeShared over anything else.
