I occupy the separate mother in law locked basement apartment, when I am not at my Hawaii properties or traveling, but there are no shared spaces and you probably will not see me. I have a sound proof ceiling and separate a/c and furnace, so please do not worry about making noise. I also have a private driveway going to the backyard and a separate side yard I use that is fenced off from the backyard for your privacy.
