Insta: @thewallacenola The space The Wallace is a private, second‑floor guesthouse set above a historic 1940s workshop structure in the courtyard of our Uptown home. The open-plan layout lets sunlight drift through the entire space, with full-size bay windows providing a beautiful vista of the courtyard below and the historic rooftops of Uptown. While The Wallace is only one block from the bustle of Magazine, the property is quiet and serene, with no street noise and double-glazed windows ensuring a peaceful slumber. ********* Bedroom Suite The main room features a plush king bed with premium hotel-style bedding, choice of feather or memory foam pillows, and bedside lamps with multi-USB chargers included. Whether you’re prepping breakfast before heading out on an adventure or mixing a nightcap after an evening dancing at Tipitina’s – only five minutes’ walk away – everything you need is at your fingertips. ********* Outdoor Courtyard You'll have full access to the tropical courtyard below, complete with dining table, propane firepit, grill, and sectional sofa. It’s fully fenced for privacy, and perfect for morning coffee, evening cocktails, or topping up your tan. ********* Pet Companions If you're bringing your four-legged friend, our courtyard is fully secure and fenced off, with pooper scooper, water bowls and poop bin provided - the perfect playground for some off-leash fun. We have two friendly rescue pups on the property – you and your pet can see as much or as little of them as you'd like during your stay. ********* Working here We're both remote workers, so it's important that The Wallace is an enjoyable place for work as well as play. There's a small desk with a panoramic view of the courtyard and good internet speeds (~50mb/s) – we can also provide a monitor, keyboard and mouse to make things as comfortable as possible. Guest access You'll access the property via a secure gate located at the side of our house, enter the rear building, walk up an internal staircase then enter The Wallace on the second floor. To protect your security and our property, each entrance is locked securely with an electronic lock – we'll provide you with one unique code for all three locks. We want you to feel at home here. You're welcome to enjoy all the amenities in the courtyard - please let us know if you're planning to use the firepit or the grill and we'll set them up. Other things to note About Your Hosts Hi! We're Robbie and Caroline, two Scottish immigrants who fell head‑over‑heels for The Big Easy during a string of Airbnb trips and finally made the city our home in 2025. Since we first met in 2009, we’ve traveled the world through guesthouses and B&Bs, always choosing to experience new cities not as tourists, but as temporary locals who live, work, and breathe the rhythm of a place. Every stay left us with something that we wanted to give others: a thoughtful touch, a warm welcome, a small detail that made us feel at home. The Wallace is our way of stitching all those lessons together and giving back the joy that we felt from all of those hosts. Our hope is to give you the same sense of wonder we felt when we first arrived in 2018 – the colors, the music, the warmth, the magic – all experienced like someone who truly belongs here. Before you even pack your bags, we’ll help tailor recommendations, arrange thoughtful extras, and curate a visit that feels personal, joyful, and unmistakably New Orleans. ********* About The Wallace The Wallace rests atop a remarkable piece of New Orleans history – the upper floor of a WWII-era structure once used to craft rudders for the famed Higgins Boats, the landing craft designed in this city and sent to the beaches of Normandy during the D‑Day landings. Today, that same wartime building has traded the fires of steel, shipworking and war for calm, luxury, quiet mornings and a touch of Scottish legend. This guesthouse takes its name from Sir Wallace of the Clan Edmonstone, a famously fierce four-legged Scottish warrior whose adventures, according to local lore, stretch across continents and centuries. Wallace is said to have fought beside Bonnie Prince Charlie for the cause of Scottish independence, fleeing with him into exile after the defeat at the hands of the English scourge at Culloden in 1746. After a colorful period in France – historians argue he operated an absinthe den and brothel in Paris’ Pigalle district – his bravery caught the attention of Napoleon himself, who dispatched Wallace to New Orleans in 1803 to oversee the Louisiana Purchase and ensure Jefferson’s new American government continued providing proper treats to the city’s French and Spanish dogs. Wallace’s legend reached its peak in 1815, when he returned to battle alongside Andrew Jackson and Jean Lafitte at the Battle of New Orleans, finally claiming his glorious revenge on the English. An iconic oil portrait commemorates his heroism, now hanging proudly on the walls of the guesthouse: this priceless piece of art was acquired by Robbie and Caroline at great cost from the Musée du Louvre in 2025. According to local legend, Wallace can still be sighted on the property, frequently accompanied by his loyal master-at-arms, Wee Angus. With a bit of luck (and perhaps a treat in hand) you may just spot them during your stay. Registration Details 26-NSTR-16063, 26-OSTR-15274
