A rental car is highly recommended for exploring Hawaiʻi Island. This is an adventure-oriented location, and having your own vehicle makes it easy to discover the beaches, waterfalls, volcanoes, restaurants and natural wonders throughout the area. 🛒 STOCK UP BEFORE YOU ARRIVE Because you’ll likely be spending your days out exploring the island, we recommend stopping for groceries before arriving at the house. Many guests find it easiest to make a Walmart stop in Hilo after landing at Hilo International Airport, stock up on everything you’ll need for your stay, and then head to the house with a fully loaded car. That way, once you arrive, you’re settled in and ready to relax or head straight out on your first Big Island adventure. 🌺 GATHER HERE. EXPLORE EVERYWHERE. A great option when you're craving something flavorful and different. Their mango sticky rice is especially popular. Pahoa Fresh Fish Perfect for a casual lunch or takeout. Known for fresh fish and fish & chips - an easy way to enjoy some local seafood without a formal dinner. Puna Poke and Grill A great pick if poke is on your Hawaii must-try list.
