A 1950s homestead cabin I rebuilt with a wall of glass facing the boulders, two bedrooms, a concrete floor that stays cool, a wood stove, and a deck with a hot tub, a fire pit and a view of the whole valley to the mountains. A turntable and a stack of records inside; coyotes outside. Ten minutes to the park, eight to the village, two hours from LA. Sunrise is from the hot tub; sunset is from the boulders behind the house with a beer. 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, room for 4. Bedroom 1: 1 queen bed; bedroom 2: 1 queen bed. There is a washing machine, air conditioning in every room, a wood stove and an EV charger, and fast wifi throughout. Mornings and evenings are the time to be outside here; the middle of the day is for the shade. Check-in is from 4 pm with a keypad on the door; checkout is by 11 am. There is off-street parking for your car. Well-behaved pets are welcome (1 at most). Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

Ski instructor at Heavenly in winter, carpenter in summer, which is how the cabins got their decks. The Joshua Tree place is my off-season escape. Firewood is stacked and included; the hot tub is on by the time you arrive.
