An A-frame in the forest at Meyers, ten minutes from the lake and the ski resorts, with a wall of glass facing the trees, a loft bed under the peak of the roof, a wood stove, a barrel sauna in the yard and a fire pit for the clear, cold nights. Sierra-at-Tahoe is 15 minutes, Heavenly 20, the lake's south shore beaches 10. Trails start from the end of the street. We built the deck ourselves and the sauna last winter. 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, room for 4. Bedroom 1: 1 king bed; bedroom 2: 1 double bed, 1 single bed. There is a washing machine and a wood stove, and fast wifi throughout. In winter the house is warm the moment you walk in. Check-in is from 4 pm with a lockbox by the door; checkout is by 10 am. Parking is free at the house. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

Ski instructor at Heavenly in winter, carpenter in summer, which is how the cabins got their decks. The Joshua Tree place is my off-season escape. Firewood is stacked and included; the hot tub is on by the time you arrive.

Romantic without trying to be. Our favourite thing was the loft bed under the peak of the roof. Travel cot, high chair and toys were all there; our kids settled in immediately. Go. Ryan left a welcome note and a list of favourites that we used every day.

I worked from here for 6 days. Fast wifi, a proper chair, good light: everything a laptop week needs. Ryan told us about the Heavenly gondola and Regan beach; both were excellent. The wifi dropped once or twice, nothing serious. Would happily do another month.

Easy self check-in, clear directions, no surprises. Good speakers and good books. We stayed in more than we planned. The kitchen is properly equipped, which almost never happens. The Heavenly gondola, as recommended, was a highlight. Would stay again.

Great cabin, exactly as pictured. We spent every evening on the terrace. Ryan is a wonderful host: present when needed, invisible otherwise.
