A 1930s French villa on the quiet western shore of West Lake, with a walled garden, a lotus pond, a long veranda and the lake at the end of the lawn. Three bedrooms with their own bathrooms, high ceilings, ceiling fans and air conditioning, and a kitchen where Mrs Hoa cooks breakfast. Tây Hồ's lakeside cafés and restaurants are a short walk; the Old Quarter is fifteen minutes by taxi or a pleasant thirty by bicycle around the lake. Quiet enough to hear the temple bell across the water. The villa sleeps 6 across 3 bedrooms (bedroom 1: 1 king bed; bedroom 2: 1 queen bed; bedroom 3: 1 double bed), with 3 bathrooms. There is a washer and dryer, a dishwasher, a proper desk and air conditioning in every room, and fast wifi throughout. Check-in is from 2 pm with our staff, who are at the house every day; checkout is by 11 am. There is off-street parking for your car. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 7 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

This villa understands what a visit to Hanoi should feel like. Travel cot, high chair and toys were all there; our kids settled in immediately. Linh told us about the Temple of Literature and bún chả at Hương Liên; both were excellent. Our favourite thing was the lotus pond in the garden.

I worked from here for 8 days. The desk and the wifi were up to the job. Linh's tips were spot on, especially the Temple of Literature. The bikes made the trip; we barely took a taxi. Would happily do another month.

Three generations under one roof and nobody got on anyone's nerves, which says a lot about the layout. The photos are accurate; if anything it is nicer in person. The Temple of Literature, as recommended, was a highlight. Linh was quick to answer and full of good tips.

Six of us for a long weekend and the place handled it with ease. The bed is extremely comfortable. Special mention for the lotus pond in the garden. Linh met us at the door and had thought of everything.
