A 1958 house in South Addition, two blocks from the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail and a ten-minute walk from downtown, with the Chugach mountains in the kitchen window and Cook Inlet at the end of the street. Three bedrooms, a living room with a stone fireplace, a sauna in the basement, and a garage with bikes in summer and a sled in winter. Moose wander through the yard most winters; in summer the light lasts until midnight and the trail is busy with cyclists and berry pickers. Leah leaves bear spray, binoculars and a tide table on the counter. The house sleeps 6 across 3 bedrooms (bedroom 1: 1 queen bed; bedroom 2: 1 queen bed; bedroom 3: 1 double bed, 1 single bed), with 2 bathrooms. There is a washer and dryer, a dishwasher, a proper desk and a fireplace, and fast wifi throughout. Expect proper heating, thick duvets and a drying rack by the door. Check-in is from 4 pm with a keypad on the door; checkout is by 11 am. Parking is free at the house. Well-behaved pets are welcome (2 at most). Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

South Addition is the quiet grid of older houses between downtown and the Coastal Trail, with moose in the yards in winter and the Chugach mountains on one side and Cook Inlet on the other. Downtown's restaurants are a 10-minute walk; the trailhead at Westchester Lagoon five.

I fly a Beaver into the backcountry for a living and grew up in Canmore, which is where the Banff places come from. My partner Leah runs the Anchorage houses while I am away. We leave bear spray, binoculars and a tide table in every place.

Three generations under one roof and nobody got on anyone's nerves, which says a lot about the layout. The garden is a real oasis. Ben told us about Kincaid Park for moose and the Alaska Native Heritage Center; both were excellent. A little further from the centre than we expected, but an easy ride.

Easy self check-in, clear directions, no surprises. You wake up to that view. Enough said. The kitchen could use a couple more pans. We loved Kincaid Park for moose and the Alaska Native Heritage Center, both close by. Would stay again.

A group of friends, a big table and a lot of cooking: this house is built for it. Firewood was stacked and ready, which we appreciated. The moose that wander through the yard in winter: that is what we will remember. Ben was quick to answer and full of good tips.

I worked from here for 5 days. The desk and the wifi were up to the job. Kincaid Park for moose, as recommended, was a highlight. The kitchen is properly equipped, which almost never happens. The best kind of office.
