A room with wifi that's well-suited for working.
A makuti-thatched villa right on Nungwi beach, where the sand starts at the end of the garden and the water stays swimmable all day. Three bedrooms with their own bathrooms and outdoor showers, a long veranda, a pool between the house and the beach, and kayaks for the still mornings. Breakfast is on the veranda. The dhow builders work on the sand to your left; the fishing boats come in at dawn to your right. Mnemba snorkelling, the turtle lagoon and a sunset dhow cruise can all be arranged from the house. The villa sleeps 6 across 3 bedrooms (bedroom 1: 1 queen bed; bedroom 2: 1 queen bed; bedroom 3: 1 double bed), with 3 bathrooms. There is a proper desk and air conditioning in every room, and fast wifi throughout. Mornings and evenings are the time to be outside here; the middle of the day is for the shade. Check-in is from 2 pm with our staff, who are at the house every day; checkout is by 10 am. You won't need a car here. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 11 pm to 7 am, as the neighbours live here all year. We ask for a minimum of 3 nights.

Nungwi, Zanzibar, Tanzania
Nungwi is at the northern tip of Zanzibar, where the tide barely moves and the water stays swimmable all day. The village is a working fishing community: dhows are still built on the beach by hand. Sunset is behind the water here, and the Mnarani turtle sanctuary is a short walk along the shore.
Amani
I run a small dive centre on Nungwi beach and spent ten years in Nairobi before coming home to Zanzibar, which is where the Karen cottage comes from. I can book your Mnemba trip, your spice tour and your dala-dala. Pole pole: nothing here needs to be rushed.

A group of friends, a big table and a lot of cooking: this house is built for it. Paddling out in the morning before anyone else was up: perfect. Special mention for the dhow builders working on the beach outside. Amani was quick to answer and full of good tips.

Three generations under one roof and nobody got on anyone's nerves, which says a lot about the layout. Sunset from the terrace with a glass of wine was our ritual. Don't miss Stone Town's Forodhani night market; Amani pointed us there and it was the best thing we did. Amani was quick to answer and full of good tips.

Lovely villa in a great spot. The breakfasts alone are worth the price. Communication with Amani was effortless.

We loved every minute here. You wake up to that view. Enough said. Stone Town's Forodhani night market, as recommended, was a highlight. Parking is tricky, as the listing warns; plan for it. Already planning to come back.
