A classic Berlin Altbau on a cobbled street near Kollwitzplatz: four-metre ceilings, stucco, herringbone parquet, double doors between the rooms and a balcony over the courtyard trees. Two bedrooms, a living room with proper speakers and my spare record collection, and a kitchen with a dishwasher and a Berlin-sized table. The neighbourhood has playgrounds on every block, a farmers' market on Saturday, and the Mauerpark flea market on Sunday. Tram M2 at the corner reaches Alexanderplatz in ten minutes; the U2 is a five-minute walk. 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, room for 4. Bedroom 1: 1 queen bed; bedroom 2: 1 double bed. There is a washing machine, a dishwasher and a proper desk, and fast wifi throughout. Expect proper heating, thick duvets and a drying rack by the door. Check-in is from 3 pm with a lockbox by the door; checkout is by 11 am. You won't need a car here. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 7 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

Prenzlauer Berg is the leafy, lived-in side of the old East: cobbled streets, restored Altbau buildings, playgrounds in every courtyard, and the Sunday flea market and karaoke at Mauerpark. Kollwitzplatz has a farmers' market on Thursdays and Saturdays. Mitte and the museum island are 15 minutes by tram.

I produce records in a studio in Wedding and have a weakness for old apartments with high ceilings. Berlin first, then Prague and Vienna when work took me there. The flats have good speakers and no neighbours who mind a little music before ten.

Check-in was smooth and the instructions were clear. Warm as toast inside even when it was freezing out. The kitchen is properly equipped, which almost never happens. Kollwitzplatz market, as recommended, was a highlight. Would stay again.

I worked from here for 5 days. The desk and the wifi were up to the job. We loved Kollwitzplatz market and the Museum Island, both close by. Good desk, fast wifi; I got real work done between outings. Would happily do another month.

We loved every minute here. Good speakers and good books. We stayed in more than we planned. Don't miss Kollwitzplatz market; Jonas pointed us there and it was the best thing we did. The wifi dropped once or twice, nothing serious. Already planning to come back.

We came for an anniversary and could not have picked better. Our favourite thing was the speakers and the record shelf. A real coffee machine, properly stocked. Small thing, big difference. We will be back.
