We loved every minute here. Spotless, bright and exactly as described. Ploy told us about the Nimman coffee shops and khao soi at Khao Soi Mae Sai; both were excellent. Already planning to come back.

A loft on the floor above my roastery in a soi off Nimman, with a wall of windows facing Doi Suthep, a bed on a timber platform, a long desk and a kitchen counter with a grinder, a kettle and a bag of whatever I roasted this week. Air conditioning, a fan, and the smell of coffee from downstairs at seven. Nimman's cafés, night markets and the Maya mall are a short walk; the old city is ten minutes by scooter or red truck. Fibre internet and a desk make it a favourite for people staying a month. 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, room for 2. Bedroom 1: 1 queen bed. There is a washing machine, a proper desk and air conditioning in every room, and fast wifi throughout. Mornings and evenings are the time to be outside here; the middle of the day is for the shade. Check-in is from 2 pm with a keypad on the door; checkout is by 11 am. There is off-street parking for your car. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 7 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

Nimmanhaemin (Nimman) is the leafy quarter between the old city and Doi Suthep: coffee roasters, galleries and night markets in the sois off the main road. The old city's temples are 10 minutes by bike; the mountain temple of Doi Suthep is 30 minutes up the hill behind us.

I roast coffee from the hills above Chiang Mai and sell it in Bangkok on weekends, which is how I ended up with places in both cities. Each one has a bag of this month's roast and a pour-over set. I will tell you where to eat khao soi and I will be right.
