A hundred-year-old Lanna teak house on stilts in Wat Ket, the old merchants' quarter across the Ping river from the night bazaar, with a garden of mango and jackfruit trees and a small pool under the frangipani. Three bedrooms, polished teak floors, a kitchen in the old cookhouse, and a veranda where breakfast is served. The riverside cafés and the Warorot market are a ten-minute walk; the old city fifteen by bike (we have four). It is quiet, green and a little bit out of time. The house sleeps 6 across 3 bedrooms (bedroom 1: 1 queen bed; bedroom 2: 1 queen bed; bedroom 3: 1 double bed, 1 single bed), with 2 bathrooms. There is a washing machine, a proper desk and air conditioning in every room, and fast wifi throughout. It stays cool inside even in the hottest months. Check-in is from 2 pm with our staff, who are at the house every day; checkout is by 11 am. There is off-street parking for your car. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 7 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

Ploy
I roast coffee from the hills above Chiang Mai and sell it in Bangkok on weekends, which is how I ended up with places in both cities. Each one has a bag of this month's roast and a pour-over set. I will tell you where to eat khao soi and I will be right.

We stayed with our two kids and it worked perfectly. Breakfast in the garden every morning. Ploy told us about the Nimman coffee shops and khao soi at Khao Soi Mae Sai; both were excellent. One bathroom for the group meant a bit of a queue in the mornings.

Wat Ket is the right part of Chiang Mai to stay in, and this is the right house in it. The kitchen is properly equipped, which almost never happens. Ploy told us about the Nimman coffee shops and khao soi at Khao Soi Mae Sai; both were excellent. Special mention for the old Lanna teak house on stilts.

Six of us for a long weekend and the place handled it with ease. The wifi held up for a week of video calls. The old Lanna teak house on stilts: that is what we will remember. Communication with Ploy was effortless.
