A hand-built log cabin on the Bow River outside Canmore, twenty minutes from the Banff gate, with the Three Sisters in the window and a canoe pulled up on the bank. Two bedrooms, a wood stove, a kitchen with a river view and a deck with a fire pit for the long summer evenings. Canmore's cafés, breweries and the Grassi Lakes trail are ten minutes away; Banff twenty; the Spray Lakes road starts at the end of ours. Dogs are welcome; so are kids who like to throw stones in rivers. Inside: 2 bedrooms sleeping up to 4 (bedroom 1: 1 queen bed; bedroom 2: 1 bunk bed) and 1 bathroom. There is a washing machine, a proper desk and a wood stove, and fast wifi throughout. Expect proper heating, thick duvets and a drying rack by the door. Check-in is from 4 pm with a lockbox by the door; checkout is by 10 am. Parking is free at the house. Well-behaved pets are welcome (2 at most). Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am, as the neighbours live here all year. We ask for a minimum of 2 nights.

I fly a Beaver into the backcountry for a living and grew up in Canmore, which is where the Banff places come from. My partner Leah runs the Anchorage houses while I am away. We leave bear spray, binoculars and a tide table in every place.

I worked from here for 5 days. The desk and the wifi were up to the job. We loved the Bow River trail and the Banff Gondola, both close by. The kitchen is properly equipped, which almost never happens. Would happily do another month.

Check-in was smooth and the instructions were clear. The photos are accurate; if anything it is nicer in person. The bed is extremely comfortable. Don't miss the Bow River trail; Ben pointed us there and it was the best thing we did. Would stay again.

A perfect few days for the two of us in Banff. Special mention for the canoe pulled up on the riverbank. Sunset from the terrace with a glass of wine was our ritual. The second bedroom's mattress is a touch firm. Thank you, Ben.

We stayed with our two kids and it worked perfectly. You wake up to that view. Enough said. The Bow River trail, as recommended, was a highlight. Ben was quick to answer and full of good tips.
