A fifth-floor apartment on Rua Vinícius de Moraes, two blocks from the beach at Posto 9, with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a balcony for the evening breeze and a closet of beach chairs, an umbrella and a cooler. A doorman around the clock and a garage. Ipanema's restaurants, the Sunday hippie fair and the lagoon are all within ten minutes on foot; Copacabana is twenty along the sand. Sunset is from Arpoador rock, five minutes away, with applause. The apartment sleeps 4 across 2 bedrooms (bedroom 1: 1 king bed; bedroom 2: 1 queen bed), with 2 bathrooms. There is a washing machine, a dishwasher, a proper desk and air conditioning in every room, and fast wifi throughout. Mornings and evenings are the time to be outside here; the middle of the day is for the shade. Check-in is from 3 pm with our staff, who are at the house every day; checkout is by 11 am. Parking is free at the house. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 11 pm to 8 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

Santa Teresa is the bohemian hill above the centre: a yellow tram, winding streets, ateliers, and views across the bay to Sugarloaf from the bars on Largo do Guimarães. The Selarón steps lead down to Lapa and its Friday night samba. Ipanema is 25 minutes by taxi.

Guitarist, carioca, Santa Teresa resident for twenty years. Both houses have an instrument or two and a view of the bay. I play most Friday nights in Lapa and will tell you which rodas de samba are the real thing. Beach advice is included.

Three generations under one roof and nobody got on anyone's nerves, which says a lot about the layout. Beach in the morning, beach in the evening; it was that kind of week. Lucas's tips were spot on, especially Ipanema beach at posto 9. The second bedroom's mattress is a touch firm.

Check-in was smooth and the instructions were clear. Spotless, bright and exactly as described. The bed is extremely comfortable. We loved Ipanema beach at posto 9 and the Selarón steps, both close by. Would stay again.

Our second time here and it was even better. Our favourite thing was the beach chairs, umbrella and cooler in the hall closet. You really are steps from the sand. Communication with Lucas was effortless.

Ipanema is the right part of Rio de Janeiro to stay in, and this is the right house in it. The bed is extremely comfortable. Ipanema beach at posto 9, as recommended, was a highlight. A little further from the centre than we expected, but an easy ride.
