A second-floor flat in an 1820s New Town tenement in Stockbridge, with twelve-foot ceilings, working shutters on the sash windows and the castle at the end of the view from the kitchen. Two bedrooms, a bathroom with a roll-top bath, and a living room with a fireplace and the books my wife grew up with. Stockbridge has a Sunday market, the Water of Leith walkway and more charity shops than any street in Scotland. Princes Street is a fifteen-minute walk up through the New Town; the Botanic Garden five minutes down. The apartment sleeps 4 across 2 bedrooms (bedroom 1: 1 queen bed; bedroom 2: 1 double bed), with 1 bathroom. There is a washer and dryer, a dishwasher and a proper desk, and fast wifi throughout. In winter the house is warm the moment you walk in. Check-in is from 3 pm with a lockbox by the door; checkout is by 11 am. You won't need a car here. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

Stockbridge is a village within the city: a Sunday farmers' market, charity shops full of tweed, and the Water of Leith running through it. The Botanic Garden is five minutes away, Princes Street a 15-minute walk up through the Georgian New Town. In August the whole city becomes the Festival.

I restore mid-century furniture in a workshop under the railway arches in Hackney, which explains the chairs. My wife is from Edinburgh and the two Scottish places are hers, really; I just fixed the floors. We have hosted for ten years and still enjoy it.

Stockbridge is the right part of Edinburgh to stay in, and this is the right house in it. Spotless, bright and exactly as described. Oliver's tips were spot on, especially the Stockbridge Sunday market. Special mention for the castle view from the kitchen window.

Check-in was smooth and the instructions were clear. The wifi held up for a week of video calls. The photos are accurate; if anything it is nicer in person. Oliver's tips were spot on, especially the Stockbridge Sunday market. Would stay again.

Honestly one of the best places we have stayed. The kitchen is properly equipped, which almost never happens. We loved the Stockbridge Sunday market and Dean Village, both close by. Highly recommended.
