A one-bedroom on the third floor of a 1650s building in the heart of the Marais, with the oak beams, the herringbone parquet and the courtyard window that make the neighbourhood what it is. It is small, as Paris is, and arranged so that nothing is missing: a real bed, a real kitchen, a desk by the window. The courtyard keeps it quiet. Outside the door, the Rue des Rosiers, the Place des Vosges and the Seine are each five minutes away, and my old pâtisserie is on the corner (there will be something from it on the counter when you arrive). The apartment sleeps 2 across 1 bedroom (bedroom 1: 1 queen bed), with 1 bathroom. There is a washing machine and a proper desk, and fast wifi throughout. Check-in is from 3 pm with a lockbox by the door; checkout is by 11 am. You won't need a car here. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

The Marais keeps its medieval street plan and its Saturday crowds in balance. On our block there is a boulangerie, a cheese shop and two cafés that know regulars by name. Place des Vosges is five minutes away for a picnic; the Seine and Île Saint-Louis ten. Sunday is the big shopping day here, when much of Paris is closed.

I ran a pâtisserie in the Marais for twelve years and still bake on Sundays, which is why there is usually something in a box on the kitchen counter when you arrive. I have lived in the neighbourhood since I was nineteen. I will happily send you a list of where to eat that has nothing to do with the guidebooks.

Easy self check-in, clear directions, no surprises. Good desk, fast wifi; I got real work done between outings. The bed is extremely comfortable. We loved Place des Vosges and the Marché des Enfants Rouges, both close by. Would stay again.

Five days in Paris and we did not want to leave. The kitchen is properly equipped, which almost never happens. Camille's tips were spot on, especially Place des Vosges. We will be back.

I worked from here for 8 days. Fast wifi, a proper chair, good light: everything a laptop week needs. We loved Place des Vosges and the Marché des Enfants Rouges, both close by. Good speakers and good books. We stayed in more than we planned. Would happily do another month.

This apartment understands what a visit to Paris should feel like. Spotless, bright and exactly as described. Place des Vosges, as recommended, was a highlight. Some street noise on weekend nights; bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.
