A former printing workshop in a courtyard off the Canal Saint-Martin, converted into a loft with a glass roof over the living space and a mezzanine bedroom under it. Concrete floors, white brick, a long steel table, and the kind of light painters move here for. Two bedrooms (one up, one down), a kitchen that was built for dinner parties, and a street of cafés, bakeries and wine bars along the water. Gare du Nord is a ten-minute walk, the Marais twenty, and two bikes hang in the hall. Inside: 2 bedrooms sleeping up to 4 (bedroom 1: 1 king bed; bedroom 2: 1 double bed) and 1 and a half bathrooms. There is a washing machine, a dishwasher, a proper desk and air conditioning in every room, and fast wifi throughout. Check-in is from 4 pm with a smart lock; checkout is by 11 am. You won't need a car here. No pets, please. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am, as the neighbours live here all year.

I ran a pâtisserie in the Marais for twelve years and still bake on Sundays, which is why there is usually something in a box on the kitchen counter when you arrive. I have lived in the neighbourhood since I was nineteen. I will happily send you a list of where to eat that has nothing to do with the guidebooks.

Lovely loft in a great spot. The view is even better than the photos. Check-in instructions came a bit late in the day for us.
